"Every walk tells a story—whether it's the industrial heritage of a mill town or the quiet beauty of woodland paths. The best trails aren't just beautiful; they're accessible to everyone who wants to experience them."
With 14 years of hands-on experience exploring Ireland's southeast, Síle specialises in creating walking experiences that work for everyone—especially older adults. Her expertise spans accessible heritage trails, river valley ecosystems, and the industrial history of Kilkenny's mill towns. She's guided over 2,000 walkers through some of the region's most rewarding landscapes.

From her Geography degree to leading accessible trails across Ireland's southeast.
Síle completed her undergraduate degree with a focus on landscape and environmental systems. This foundation shaped how she approaches trail documentation and understands the natural features she writes about.
Her first career involved environmental impact assessment and landscape analysis. While rewarding, she found herself increasingly drawn to direct engagement with Ireland's natural spaces rather than desk-based analysis.
Active involvement for 12 years, developing trail guides and mentoring new guides. Her work with the organisation reinforced her belief that walking should be inclusive—not just for the young and super-fit.
Over 2,000 walkers guided on heritage trails across Kilkenny, Waterford, and Carlow. Her approach combines practical accessibility expertise with genuine storytelling. She's become locally known for detailed knowledge of the Nore Valley—she's walked every section multiple times.
Collaboration on accessible trail development and training. This work deepened her commitment to creating walking routes that work for everyone, regardless of physical ability or sensory experience.
Contributing expert content on accessible walking routes and local history. Her articles combine practical advice with authentic storytelling, ensuring every recommendation comes from real experience rather than desk research.
Síle grew up in Waterford, where walking was simply how you got to know the landscape. She developed a genuine passion for connecting with Ireland's natural and cultural heritage on foot. After finishing her Geography degree at UCC in 2010, she initially worked as an environmental consultant—work that was solid and analytical, but something was missing.
The real turning point came when she started guiding her own parents through the countryside. They wanted to walk, but they found most trails poorly documented, too strenuous, or lacking context about what they were actually seeing. That's when she realised how few well-designed, accessible trails existed for older adults. There was a gap, and she decided to fill it.
Over the past 12 years, she's become deeply involved with the Irish Ramblers' Association and collaborated with the National Council for the Blind Ireland. She's mentored new guides and developed inclusive trail programmes. Her particular expertise in the Nore Valley comes from walking every section multiple times—documenting not just terrain, but the mill towns, weirs, and industrial heritage woven through the landscape.
What makes Síle different isn't just her knowledge—it's how she shares it. She doesn't do generic trail descriptions. Every article combines practical accessibility information with genuine storytelling about the places she writes about. She's guided over 2,000 walkers, and you'll find that her recommendations come from real experience, not desk research. When she says a trail works for pensioners, she's walked it dozens of times and knows exactly where you'll need to rest.
